What about Modest Clothes?

Modest fashion refers to a fashion trend for women of wearing less skin revealing clothes, for different reasons not just a simple matter of covering up; it could be for religion, ethnicity or personal preferences.

Dressing modestly is not simply putting on a long sleeve shirt with loose pants, it encompasses a wide variety of styles usually include long hemlines and sleeves, high necklines, loose and non-transparent clothes.

Why modest fashion is becoming a trend?

Modest fashion is a recognized trend nowadays; the beauty of modest fashion is that it doesn’t belong to one group anymore and it is no longer defined for conforming toward religious requirements only.

It has developed into an inclusive trend and has made its way from the street wear to models and artists to adapt, especially through fashion influencers on Instagram have made it look more wearable and accessible for ‎everyone.

The reasons why women prefer to wear modest clothes are because they feel confident, comfortable and fashionable and can stay on trend at the same time, also some women choose modest clothes because they don’t like to show a lot of their skin. On the other hand a lot of pieces of modest fashion never go out of style.

Where modest fashion came from?

This clothing style was worn by women across several cultural and religious backgrounds not only Muslim ones they have opted to wear it for years. It has transformed through history, yet kept its primitive essence of elegance, length, and style.

The trend can be primarily traced back to the Islamic Empire at the eighth century as the requirement of Muslim women to cover up. Then there are the robes, shawls and kaftans of the 14th century at the Ottoman Empire. Also if we go back to Britain in about the 1950s ‎modest fashion was the norm. Everyone had long hemlines and long sleeves, Even the Farthingale skirts of Queen Elizabeth I in the Elizabethan era in England are considered modest fashion.

Even queens nowadays continue to wear modest clothes like Queen Rania Abdulla and Queen Elizabeth II and Duchess Catherine, Meghan and others; the reason is that this is the royal code to show them luxury.

Which brands included modest clothes in their collections?

Years ago modest clothes were barely available at stores, instead women used to buy clothes and tailor them to become modest by adding extra fabric or sewing slits together, there’s no doubt that the clothes industry has moved in a more positive direction to modest clothes nowadays. Designers and brands are releasing collections that are modest for hijabi and non-hijabi women and they got big profits and success; like Nike, Asos, Mango, H&M, Dolce & Gabbana and others.

How can we realize the rise of modest fashion?

While modest styles and individual pieces have been visible on runways in Europe for the past couple of years, designers are now creating entire labels dedicated to fashion-conscious modest dressers.

Demand for modest fashion is apparent to the extent it even has its own fashion week since 2017. Dubai Modest Fashion Week will be the 7th edition this year of global Modest Fashion Week event series after Istanbul, London, Dubai, Jakarta, Amsterdam editions with 2 Billion media reach including New York Times, BBC, Vogue, featuring a diverse array of luxury and contemporary fashion brands.

Inspired by El Gouna’s diverse culture and picturesque environment, GFF is held in the midst of a groundbreaking cultural hub and the spectacular structure of the Gouna Conference and Cultural Center in the Red Sea resort town of El GounaEgypt.

The festival is a creative event aims to support Egyptian and Arab talents and to enhance business opportunities for the Arab cinema where a wide range of meetings will be organized between Arab and international film artists, filmmakers, directors, producers, and distributors. The festival presents a selection of the newest films from around the globe, and the festival gives special attention to films with humanitarian content. Also in a Special Presentations section iconic films from the past that continue to be cherished by film-loving audiences are screened.

After four consecutive editions the sentiment still echoes throughout every year more and more. While it’s the place to celebrate the very best of Arab cinema, it’s also one of our favorite events to see the latest looks from Middle Eastern fashion designers where their styles become trends. The festival gives young designers and small brands the opportunity to have a platform to get their name put on the world stage with film stars wearing their creations.

Modest Clothes in Europe Market

Clothes in the Middle East market are so diversified, where you can find traditional, modest and Western fashion clothes. While in  Europe it is not the same, there are only Western clothes, you can barely find modest or Arab traditional clothes.

Women in some countries in the world wear traditional clothes on a daily basis like in Gulf countries for example, while other countries in the Middle East and in Europe only old women wear traditional clothes on a daily basis and younger women wear traditional clothes only for special occasions such as a wedding or religious celebration like Eid and Ramadan.

Muslim population in Europe keep growing, and unfortunately Islamic fashion clothes offerings have been limited and there is a gap in the Europe market, there is no single Islamic brand catering to the fashion needs of the Muslim population,  most of the clothes in the market are unsuitable designs specially for Hijabi women.

Islamic clothing includes Kaftans, Abayas, clothing items that conform to Islamic dress code, Islamic clothes nowadays combine religious clothing with fashion trends, such as long dresses, long sleeves, loose fitting clothes and high necklines.

Modest clothes are not only for Muslim women whether Hijabi or non-Hijabi, a lot of women from different religions like to wear this kind of clothes.

In the past women had to customize clothes from the tailors because they couldn’t find modest clothes in the Europe market. But nowadays women in Europe are not facing the same problems they used to face before when they want to buy modest clothes or arab traditional clothes for occasions because now they can order whatever they want online from any country in the world and can come to them easily.

Khood is the best online store solution for such problems in finding modest clothes and Arab traditional clothes , you can find in our website a lot of varieties for occasions and for daily basis whether you’re a Hijabi or not.
