It’s almost that time of the year — wedding season!
What to wear to a wedding when you’re not the bride is an important topic of conversation. From debating colors of the outfit to the styles, wedding season is up and coming and it is important to consider your options carefully.
But before that, how about a quick refresher on wedding dress code etiquette? there are a few things to remember while getting dressed in order to still be respectful of the ceremony and the people getting married.
1. DON’T Wear White.
If there’s one way not to dress at a wedding, it’s wearing white. While not all brides are wearing white these days, it’s better to be safe than sorry. White is reserved for the BRIDE only.
2. DON’T Show Too Much Skin.
Staying on the conservative side when attending a wedding is smart. Despite how awesome you look and however many hours you’ve spent toning and tanning, the bride is going to want all eyes on her. Make sure your dress is not too short or too tight. Also, Make sure that your cleavage is tasteful. That being said, it’s OK to accentuate your favorite asset. “[Your outfit] can have one sexy element like a plunging neckline, short hemline, cutout, low back, or a body con fit, but no more than one,” says Simone Hill, assistant editor at The Knot.
Remember, this day is not about you so don’t dress like it’s YOUR night.
3. Better To Be Over-Dressed Than Under
There’ll be plenty of opportunities to wear flip-flops and cutoffs this summer, but a wedding is not one of them. If you want to go ‘casual’, that still means absolutely no jeans, shorts, or tank tops. Opt for a summer sundress or a pair of nice pants and blouse.
4. Don’t Steal The Show
Remember there are going to be a ton of pictures taken during the night — either by a professional photographer or via guests’ smartphones — so it’s important to dress appropriately.Don’t wear something that will upstage the bride. Let her stand out in her wedding photos.
5. Don’t Wear: Denim
It’s neither cute nor casual. It’s just bad manners.
