The Most Common Body Shapes
Body Shapes
First, you must know that body shapes categorizing isn’t a science.
Often, you will know what shape types your body belongs to. Sometimes you will know that there’s a lot of variation within one type. You may have many features and characteristics from several shape types at the same time.
Each body has a different shape and size, that’s what makes each one a unique body. But in general, the most common categories include:
- The apple shape or inverted triangle.
- The pear shape or a triangle.
- The banana shape, rectangle, or straight shape.
- The hourglass shape or curvy.
It’s important to confirm that bodies have shapes and sizes and that they are beautiful! There isn’t a typical body or ideal shape, despite it being common that the hourglass shape categories are more feminine because of their curves.
How to determine your body shape
Nothing is more useful than a tape measure to know your body shape type. It can be helpful for choosing suitable clothing. Then start taking measurements of your shoulders, bust, waist, high hips, and hips. In the end, you can use this information to determine your body shape which has the best description of your measurements.
How to take your measurements?
Knowing your measurements is necessary not only to determine your body shape but also for clothes shopping too. Sometimes you can recognize your body type by matching the shape with the type description.
But if you want to be accurate on this, you can follow these tips:
- Use a soft, flexible measuring tape.
- To get accurate measurements, remove your clothing and stay in your underwear or put on something light such as tiny leggings with a tank top.
- To position the measuring tape properly, you can stand up in front of the long mirror while you take the measurement.
- Measure around the fullest part of your body; either you take the bust or hips measurement.
- Keep the measuring tape snug around your body, but don’t pull it so tight.
- Make sure you can still fit 1 finger between the tape and your body.
- Measure around the smallest part of your waist.
- Focus on the 3 measurements and compare them to determine which is the largest and smallest.
